Yahoo has had a option for a long time to ignore anyone who is not on my messenger list this would stop PM's from people not on your friends list however in the latest versions of messenger it now includes people in chat as well hence why people cannot see others text so there is 3 possible fixes...

Fix no 1 - Is to set it to ignore only people on your ignore list by click on Messenger selecting Preferences and clicking on ignore and putting a dot in Ignore only the people below this will allow u to see everyone's text however this will also allow everyone to PM you!

Fix no 2 - Is to get rid of the latest version of Yahoo messenger and go back to a older version say 7.0 which is a good stable version you can see instructions on how to do this by clicking here.
