Yahoo! removed the chat button in Yahoo! Messenger 7.5 and newer versions 8.0 and 8.1 and so on to enter chat now  u have to click on Messenger then Yahoo! Chat > Join a Room.

If that option is not there for you then you have downloaded the UK Version of Yahoo! Messenger which no longer supports chat you have to UN-Install Yahoo! Messenger and Install the US Version from http://messenger.yahoo.com
