This is a issue allot of people have with messenger specially 8.0 there no true fix but the following suggestions  have helped allot of people fix there issue.

Suggestion 1: Open internet explorer and click on tools and select internet options once there click on security tab and click on the custom level button once this pops up scroll down to where it says scripting and make sure following enable:

• Active scripting
• Allow paste operations via script
• Scripting on java applets.

Restart Yahoo! Messenger see if this solves the issue.

Suggestion 2: If you have norton's or Zone Alarm disable it then restart messenger and see if text works if it does you will have to learn how to configure your firewall!

Suggestion 3: Make sure you have Java Virtual machine or sun java installed on your pc you can install java on your pc by download and installing java from http://ourchat.org/dl/vm.exe

Suggestion 4: Make sure you have the latest flash installed since yahoo uses flash for many things now which u can download and install from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

Suggestion 5: If all else false try installing microsoft's windows script 5.6 for XP and 2000 click here.
